Avli Tip: If you’re an Old Fashion lover, order the Nostalgia. The rum-based variation combines biscuit, hazelnut, and a Greek herbal tea variety, commonly known as "mountain tea".

BABA AU RUM

Opened in 2009, the Baba team introduced new cocktail culture to the streets of downtown Athens. Also one of the World’s 50 Best Bars, this crew breaks down their playful menu by chapters–The Avant Garde Cocktails, The Rum Society, Beers & Wine, H2O, and The Spirits –that may take you more than one visit to get through. 

Avli Tip: Get the signature cocktail, The Baba Au Rum. It's a complex, yet balanced umami daiquiri with vanilla, sweet serry, oak, lime, and basil. You’ll enjoy the botanical notes with Barcelo Imperial rum from the Dominican Republic.

COULEAR LOCALE ATHENS

Hidden in the gallery of Normanou St. in Monastiraki, this vibrant rooftop bistro offers stunning views of the Acropolis hill all year round. Get ready for a night out and relax with a cocktail and music from local DJs.

Avli Tip: Try the Espresso Martini, crafted with Wyborowa vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso exclusive blend and vanilla.

TIKI BAR ATHENS

Tiki Bar is a well known treasure of the ones living in the Greek capital, offering tropical and exotic vibes with bamboo flourishes and leopard-print chairs. Music plays an important role here too, and you’ll enjoy DJ tunes from all decades.

BARRELDIER

Small and stylish. The locals love this bar for the perfectly executed classic cocktails. It’s a great choice for solo travelers, as the atmosphere is unpretentious and as welcoming as it gets. 

Avli Tip: Try the Negroni, they age the cocktails in little barrels.

ODORI VERMUTERIA DI ATENE

Funky cocktails with menu narratives to match. Odori is busy from morning until late into the night. Located on a lovely cobbled square, the delicious wood-fired pizzas are a perfect drinking buddy. 

Avli Tip: Go out here at night and then come back for brunch the next day. They do it right.

THE BANK JOB

Wrong…in all the right ways. The Bank Job is set in a former bank vault (how fitting) and every drink is an ode to a cinematic bank robber. The chic industrial look and creative drinks makes it one of the most interesting and fun places to unwind.

Avli Tip: The perfect place for a night cap. They also have a neon sign for you to find. Hint, you’ve got to look up.

UPUPA EPOPS

Upupa Epops is where modern and vintage perfectly intersect. Which once housed interwar homes in the 1930s, the detailed interior has kept its dated neoclassical charm while the pops of color create a hip and lively atmosphere. Open for brunch, cocktails, and bar bites--Upupa Epops is a must if you're in the mood for contemporary cocktails, fast & friendly service, and a casual atmosphere.

Avli Tip: Go for the scenic outdoor courtyard with tiled flooring...if you can snag a seat.

 

ANETON

Aneton, a staple of the Athens dining scene since 2005, combines the magic of simplicity, philoxenia, and good service with a price point that’s affordable.
