THE BEST BEACHES IN MILOS

Explore where to swim, sunbath, snorkel, and enjoy the sights beyond one’s imagination.

PRASSA BEACH

This is a beach that impresses you from the moment you see it from afar. The beautiful turquoise crystal waters, paired with a white sandy beach, makes this an extremely impressive destination.

Avli Tip: A perfect place to spend the day with family.

KLEFTIKO MILOS

Swim, snorkel, or soak up the sun. The turquoise-tinted water, white cliffs, intriguing tunnels and caves make Kleftiko Milos one of the most spectacular places in the world. Kleftiko is only accessible by boat, so plan ahead and book a boating excursion. Kleftiko tours leave from Adamas port, the biggest town on Milos.

Avli Tip: Book an Excellent Yachting guided snorkeling tour and get underwater photographs of you taken by the crew.

ALOGOMANDRA BEACH

While this is one of the lesser known beaches on the island, it is certainly worth visiting and is accessible by bus or car. Its main feature is that the beach area for visitors is surrounded with large rock formations that extend out into the sea, visually resembling a cave or a grotto.

Avli Tip: The sea in the area of Alogomandra is clear and has a sloping entry with a sand bottom–perfect for children and swimming.

PAPIKINOU BEACH - O! HAMOS! TAVERN

Papikinou Beach is a must, mainly because of O! Hamos! Tavern. You enter through a leafy doorway into an open terrace sprinkled with homestyle tables in the midst of vibrant over hanging plants. We’re not kidding, this will be one of the most amazing meals of your life. It’s like having a relaxed meal in the backyard with your neighbors.

Avli Tip: Order the gourounopoulo metimezako. It’s a piglet cooked for hours in a molasses, mustard and thyme marinade.

PLAKA VILLAGE - AVLI MILOS

Plaka Village is the present capital of Milos where one can experience magnificent views of the Gulf of Milos, explore local cafes and restaurants, and even visit the Milos Sand Gallery. If you need a break from the beach, exploring Plaka is a perfect way to spend your day.

Avli Tip: Dine at Avli Milos, Chef/Owner Chris used to work at our Avli Winnetka location in the mid-2010s. Hi Chris!

PAPAFRAGAS CAVES

Papafragas is a beautiful site and a gorgeous place to swim, kayak, and explore the caves. We personally recommend booking a Papafragas excursion through Sea Kayak Milos. Yes, kayaking is quite the workout–but so worth it. The team is led by Rod, a geologist and a kayak lover, who explains all the mysteries of the unique coastline caves.

Avli Tip: Visit early in the morning for sunrise, and you’ll likely have the entire beach to yourself.

CAPE VANI

Head to Cape Vandi for spectacular and colorful rock formations on the western side of Milos. The spot is most known for its history, as this is where the old manganese mines were from 1898-1920. They stopped working in 1920 because after World War One, the needs for manganese were limited. However, you’ll find small architectural remnants along the cliffs.

Avli Tip: While it’s not the most accessible to get to, a great way to see it is on a boat tour from the Adamas port.

SARAKINIKO BEACH

Sarakiniko is one of the most famous beaches in Milos and is truly nature’s playground. Explore the amazing rock formations, small pools with emerald water, rock arches, and cliff jumping spots.

Avli Tip: Head here for sunrise. You’ll see a one-of-a-kind sight of magnificent colors as the sun paints the white cliffs orange and pink.

FIRIPLAKA BEACH

Don’t worry about this beach being overcrowded, it’s one of the largest. Firiplaka also has organized facilities where you can rent sunbeds and buy refreshments at a small beach bar. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a one stop shop.

Avli Tip: Located in the middle of the beach you’ll find a cliff that looks out of place. Go beyond it and you’ll discover an archway you can swim through.
